Michelle Ciulla Lipkin, Brand & Website

Brand and website for a media literacy educator, built around her story and work she does today.

Michelle Ciulla Lipkin spent over a decade leading the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE), work that traces back to losing her father in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. I built her brand and website from scratch, took photos, and helped curate the site’s content and structure around her story and the work she offers now: speaking, writing, teaching and a podcast.

The wordmark carries her full name so it’s what people remember, while the nav uses just her initials, MCL, where space is tighter and expands for interior pages on wider screens, where more space is available and the home page wordmark is not visible. Her story gets its own dedicated page rather than opening the homepage, and the storys hero balances focus with her close-knit family in happy times, rather than only the tragedy itself.

The site was built as a first step rather than a finished destination: something that pulls links to her writing, videos, and holds the story in one place, with room to expand as her advocacy work grows. I set it up using Astro/HTML/CSS for the front-end and a Decap CMS for the content so she can keep it current herself.
