Circle Magazine is a joint effort by all the state-run diabetes organisations to consolidate the state quarterly publications into one national publication. The magazine has a 36-page generic section that has content relevant to all people with diabetes—or carers—and a 16-page section that contains state-specific content. The premier issue had to bring together all the states to one consistent style and we needed to create a magazine that could compete with the newsstand bestsellers. After researching the competition I came up with a concept that kept the needs of a person living with diabetes in mind. Typography and imagery had to be clean, clear and concise and meet standards of a partially government-funded publication. The magazine was a success receiving praise from members nationally and through readership surveys.
